Vielä Minä, Simonista sekä listausta hyvistä queer-teinielokuvista

Kirjoitin teinielokuvasta Minä, Simon huhtikuussa pidemmän analyysin. Elokuva on historiallinen ensimmäinen ison studion homoteinielokuvana, joten siitä on myös kirjoitettu paljon. Lupasin huhtikuussa perehtyä teksteihin, alla linkattuna muutamia kiinnostavia näkökulmia. Lopussa listaan myös muita hyviä teineistä kertovia elokuvia.

Tämän kylän homopoika, Minä, Simon – aivan tavallinen ja juuri siksi maailman ihanin elokuva:

"Loistavien näyttelijävalintojen ansiosta elokuvan nuoret hahmot tarjoavat loputtomasti samaistumispintaa ja toisaalta muistuttavat teini-iän jo ohittaneita siitä, että se oli just tota, kun kaikessa yrityksessään olla cool onkin kuitenkin hiukan kiusallinen ja pienet asiat kasvavat valtaviksi elämää horjuttaviksi draamoiksi."

"Breakthroughs come in different shapes and sizes, though, and it would be unfair to disparage this hugely entertaining picture simply for being big and fluffy and pink.

"As a genderqueer kid who has always been too femme for my own good, I found Ethan to be the only character in the film I could relate to. And he is relegated to narrative obscurity for most of the movie. He is a sideshow, a subtle foil to show how palatable and masculine Simon is."

Jamie Babbitt, But I'm a Cheerleader (1999)
Jonnet ei muista naistekijöille omistettua R&A:n Artisokka-festivaalia (RIP!). Näin siellä aikoinaan – täpötäydessä Bio Rexissä! – tämän erittäin pinkin, teinien käännytysleirille sijoittuvan teinikomedian, pääosissa Clea Duvall (johon olin ihastunut jo The Facultyssa) ja mainio Natasha Lyonne (tuttu mm. OINTB:sta). Jonnetkin tunnistaa sivuroolista RuPaulin! Leffavisassa olen kerran briljeerannut yhdistämällä elokuvaan Tarantinonkin käyttämän April Marchin "Chick Habit" -biisin.

Lukas Moodysson, Fucking Åmål (1997)
Aj että, sukupolvikokemus! Tuntui silloin 20 vuotta(!) sitten niin hyvältä nähdä hyvä teinikuvaus läheltä. Robynin rallatus antoi elokuvalle kansainvälisen nimen.

Gregg Arakin elokuvat
Araki on nero kiteyttämään outsider-meininkiä ja teini-iän kaaosta. Alkajaisiksi suosittelen The Doom Generationia (1995) ja Kaboomia (2010), nuorista aikuisista kertova The Living End (1992) on myös suosikki.

André Téchiné, Quand on a 17 ans (Being 17, 2016)

Konkari Téchinén ja nousussa olevan Céline Sciamman (Girlhood, Tomboy) käsikirjoittama elokuva tuntuu jotenkin lämpöisen klassiselta draamaelokuvalta. Vuoristokylään sijoittuva elokuva tutkii myös ranskalaista luokkayhteiskuntaa. Pääosapoikien Kasey Mottet-Kleinin sekä Corentin Filan välillä on hienon jännitteistä kemiaa.
